Attila Csörgő wins NAM JUNE PAIK AWARD 2008 (e-flux)

In his works AttilaCsorgoexplores the relationship between a plane and space. He often immerses himself for months in intricate problems of mathematics, physics or projective geometry, creating works that demonstrate possible solutions to these problems. At other times, he constructs special cameras to capture reality on pictures never seen before. He is engaged in optical illusions generated by the interaction of light and movement, in those surprising and unexpected physical phenomena that shatter the viewer’s belief in apparently evident physical laws. Through different simulacra of objects or forms, the virtual products of his unusual devices, allows a glance into an underlying reality that normally goes unnoticed, due to the routine ways of our superficial everyday perception. Precise calculation and the certainty of engineering are combined in mechanical constructions pieced together from simple materials and in his mobile structures the thrill of discovery and a sense of uncertainty arise from the limitations of human perception. His poetical works with often playful and facile solutions reveal a humorous as well as a philosophical mindset. The partial technical solutions and the finish of his artworks are consciously and deliberately incidental. He does not attempt to aestheticize his mechanical constructions. By reducing the process of execution to a functional minimum, he manages to direct the viewers’ attention to the essential elements of the geometrical concept or the physical phenomenon represented by the operating mechanism. The three-dimensional animation based on unbelievably intricate and complex calculations, which is generated in front of our eyes from within an apparent yet all the more purposeful chaos of sticks, strings, pulleys, and weights, would doubtlessly be easier to model on a computer. Something, however, would then inevitably vanish from it: the purifiedimmediacy of thought and invention.

Mit Artikulation (lat. articulare = deutlich aussprechen) bezeichnet man im linguistischen Sinne die Bildung der Phoneme und Wörter menschlicher Sprachen, also den motorischen Vorgang des Sprechens bei den Lautsprachen und des Gebärdens mit Händen bei den Gebärdensprachen.

Grundvoraussetzung für die lautsprachliche Lautbildung ist die Atmung, die über die Lunge die zum Sprechen benötigte Atemluft liefert. Man spricht in diesem Sinne auch vom Phonationsstrom. Bei diesem handelt es sich in erster Linie um exspiratorischen Phonationsstrom, d. h. nur die ausgeatmete Luft dient normalerweise der Lautbildung. Nicht alle Laute, die mit dem Mund erzeugt werden können, werden in einer gegebenen Lautsprache benutzt, also linguistisch relevant. (-> Wikipedia)

DIE STIMME

Wer um die Wirkung der Stimme weiß, kann sie umso bewusster einsetzen.

Die menschliche Stimme ist der durch die Stimmlippen eines Menschen erzeugte und in den Mund-, Rachen- und Nasenhöhlen modulierte Schall. Die Stimme wird vom Menschen zur Übermittlung von Informationen in Form von Sprache und anderen Lauten wie Schreien, Weinen, Lachen, Stöhnen etc. eingesetzt.

Beim Singen wird die menschliche Stimme als Musikinstrument eingesetzt. (-> Wikipedia)

(engl.: voice science) beschreibt und erforscht das Phänomen „Stimme“: die Stimmproduktion und Stimmwahrnehmung. In diese Grenzwissenschaft fließt Wissen aus verschiedenen Teilgebieten ein.

Einige wichtige Gebiete sind: Physiologie und Anatomie, die Mechanik und Akustik, die Medizin, insbesondere die Phoniatrie, die Psychologie, die Sprechwissenschaft und die Gesangspädagogik.

Bedeutende Vertreter dieser wissenschaftlichen Fachdisziplin sind: Johan Sundberg (ehemals KTH, Stockholm, Schweden), Ingo Titze (University of Iowa and National Center for Voice and Speech, USA) und Peter-Michael Fischer.

Ausgewählte Arbeiten von Studierenden der Kunstunversität Linz

BestOff09 zeigt heuer zum neunten Mal eine umfangreiche  Auswahl an außergewöhnlichen/hervorragenden Arbeiten aus dem Studienjahr 2008/2009. Die Ausstellung findet zum zweiten Mal im Areal des Brückenkopfgebäudes Ost statt und setzt in komprimierter Form ein weiteres Zeichen für die geplante Erweiterung der Kunstuniversität Linz in dieser markanten Innenstadtsituation.

Die Auswahl und Kombination von Einzel- und Gruppenarbeiten bzw. Initiativen und Projekte der Studierenden geben einen ausgezeichneten Einblick in die Individualität der Ansätze und die vielfältigen Felder der kulturellen Auseinandersetzungen an der Kunstuniversität Linz 2009.

Diese bislang umfangreichste Ausstellung in der Reihe des Ausstellungsformats BestOff wurde heuer von Sabine Bitter und Helmut Weber kuratiert (AbsolventInnen der Kunstuniversität Linz, international renommierte KünstlerInnen – zuletzt mit der Ausstellung „Right, to the City“ in der Landesgalerie Linz präsent), das Filmprogramm im Moviemento Programmkino wurde von Willi Schwind in bewährter Weise ausgewählt.

Eine speziell für die Ausstellung entwickelte Architektur von Stefan Hofer wird den Parcour der Ausstellung strukturieren.

CROSSTALK PRESENTATION

As part of  crosstalk video art festival 2010 (www.crosstalk.hu) the monthly organised talk series crosstalk Video Presentations start again.

Video and Media Artists from Hungary and from outside Hungary are invited to do a presentation and have a discussion with the audience.  The aim of the events is to introduce contemporary video artists (from and outside our country) and to make the audiences acquainted with video art as such and also to nurture this field of art.

One is going to meet a couple of new changes this year. There has been changes in the structure of the presentations and the venues are going to be different too. Video Presentations are moving from last year’s location the Labor (1053 Budapest, Képíró u. 6.) to the spacious rooms of Műcsarnok (1146 Dózsa György út 37.)

Roland Wegerer was born in 1974 in Amstetten, Austria
Training for technical draftsman, since 1997 express intense in art.
Since 2005 studies at University of art and industrial design Linz. Lives and works in St. Nikola/Danube and Linz.

The investigation of positioning the individual is a central task in the work of Roland Wegerer. For this he dives deeply into the daily life of everyone. Rituals, practices and preferences are recorded and get examinated on their qualities. He uses familiar objects in distorted ways, turns action sequences backwards or focuses details of the human body to intervense in socially formed structures.

>From the collective society, he uses pattern numerous associations. There are the relations of man to his surroundings and the experience of daily life (breathing, chewing, sleeping, etc.) he is interested in. In all his work Wegerer shows processual what the average quantity of sculptural quality emerges is when a human being confrontational meets on a material or an element (dust, air, water, etc.). He goes from an expanded notion of sculpture. The interest is not the formal product, the object itself, nor its aesthetics. To create a work of art can also be just an ordinary stand out against its logical context, words and meaning attached to the outside of the narrow range of the visible stem.

The search for the position and the role of an artist in society, the treatment of current and enduring issues and attempts to answer them driving Roland Wegerer work forward.
