Headquartered in New York, ICI is a small non-profit with a large purview. Over the last 35 years, ICI has produced 118 traveling exhibitions and profiled the work of more than 3,700 artists, working with 621 museums, university art galleries, and art centers in 48 states and 29 countries worldwide, including Argentina, Austrailia, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Iceland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Mexico, New Zealand, Poland, Romania, Spain, Sweden, and Taiwan. Ob der „Anschluss“ an das Deutsche Reich, ob die Kriegs- und Nachkriegsjahre - der Herr Karl kann sich immer mit den Verhältnissen arrangieren und seine selbstgerecht-bornierte Mentalität kultivieren, die ihn in ihrer Mischung von Ressentiments, Vorteilssucht und Verantwortungsscheu zum Durchschnittsbürger schlechthin stempelt.

MONGOLIA 360° 2^nd Land Art Biennial Open Call 2012

ART & POLITICS

Global change in politics, the perspective of ecology in the 21^st century and a new vision of diversity require a creative understanding. In order to develop a new chapter in Land Art and following the nomadic idea of the Walking Museum the Land Art Biennial in Mongolia was founded to be located in variously areas of Mongolia. In August 2012 with MONGOLIA 360° the 2^nd international Mongolian Land Art Biennial will be take place in the very special location of Ikh GAZRIIN CHULUU Gobi. The Biennial will discuss a contemporary definition of what Land Art can reveal about Art & Politics.

During the residency artists have the opportunity to realize side specific works. Artists are expected to interact with the environment of the nature reserve and free in the choice of materials and artistic expressions (installation/performance/earth art/organic art/sculpture etc.)

Sutartinės (from the word sutarti – to be in concordance) is a form of polyphonic music performed by female singers in north-east Lithuania. The songs have simple melodies, with two to five pitches, and comprise two distinct parts: a meaningful main text and a refrain that may include nonce words. -> UNESCO

In many countries, the Lithuanian sutartinė has become Lithuania’s “calling card” – these polyphonic chants are constantly presented to a wider audience abroad by folk music ensembles and papers read at international scholarly conferences. Nevertheless, the sutartinė is relatively unknown in the world: to many foreign listeners, they are exotica of unknown provenance that arose in a small corner of Europe – Lithuania. True, in the middle of the twentieth century, the tradition of collective chanting of the sutartinė died out from Lithuanian villages, so it doesn’t seem any less exotic to a portion of Lithuania’s inhabitants. Incidentally, this portion of inhabitants isn’t made up of younger people ignorant of tradition, but for the most part middle-aged people whose musical tastes were formed in a particular cultural context. Urban youth feel a certain intimacy with the sutartinė. Interesting video! Works with different ratios like 4:3, 16:9 and cinemascope. Take also a look a the mix of found footage, “in-time” takes and the “used” look. Good compilation of different videoart types in one piece – and it works really well. And the song is a great background with the uniform storyline between verse and chorus. So the visual and the audio parts fit together and create an excellent art piece!
